A DEVELOPMENTAL APPROACH
TRUE READINESS
At Mountain Song we spend our preschool years honoring the developmental demands of young children, without the pressure to do work they are not yet ready for. While children are still grounding into their physical bodies and experiences, we learn through play, nature crafting and handwork, singing and movement games.
Through deep observation and trust building, teachers are able to access individually when children are ready for more explicit literacy and numeracy work in the classroom. Building on the foundations of their preschool time, children are then brought into our Kinder curriculum. The Waldorf method allows for a holistic approach, recognizing that each child learns differently and still needs the balance of free play in nature, rest, art and music throughout their days. Kinder children enjoy a well-rounded school day, creating their own workbooks, and becoming leaders in the classroom. Mountain Song children will be prepared for any First Grade experience they enter.
Below are some examples of our Kinder children’s workbooks and external resources around the developmental science to this approach to literacy, both from the Waldorf perspective and beyond!
